SCREENING CLINIC
Periodically Martin County Schools receives Child Find notifications on children when there is a developmental concern. Child Find is a free referral service and public awareness campaign to assist in identifying, locating, and evaluating children and youth with a delay or disability. Notifications are received from various sources such as parents, physicians, child care centers, private preschools, Head Start, and the Child Developmental Service Agency. When those notifications are received for a child that is 2.5 to 5 years of age, the parent is contacted to schedule a time for the child to visit our Preschool Screening Clinic. The screening clinic occurs once a month during the academic school year. Potential areas screened at the clinic are vision, hearing, speech, cognitive development, and motor. When screening indicates a more in-depth evaluation is needed to determine if the student has a disability, which could result in consideration for special education services, the parent is contacted to begin the referral process for the Exceptional Children's Program. Children who have been evaluated and determined eligible for services through the Exceptional Children Program are afforded services through our preschool program starting at age three.
