Meet Mike Sartain
Riverside High School’s New Head Football Coach
“I’m very excited about the future of this program,” Mike Sartain explained. “There’s been a great foundation laid here, even down to middle school, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
Sartain brings a diverse background to his role as the new head football coach for Riverside High School, which includes 23 years of experience as a high school football coach.
Much of his experience came in the western portion of North Carolina, however; Sartain is remembered down east for being a defensive coordinator for West Carteret High School and his time as head coach for East Carteret High School.
He also has over a decade of experience coaching high school track and shorter stints coaching baseball at the high school level.
Although his most recent position was as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the First Battalion, 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, Sartain is a certified K-12 Physical Education teacher with 21 years of experience in public schools.
His health and physical education teaching experience stretches from elementary school to high school.
Sartain brings 25 years of experience as a high school and college strength coach - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certified.
He holds undergraduate degrees in Physical Education from Western Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in physical education from East Carolina University.
As the school year winds down, that means it is time to start planning for football, and Sartain is ready to do just that.
“I look forward to meeting everyone,” he explained.
We hope the Riverside High School family; staff, players, and parents, along with the community, will come out Wednesday night (May 17) for a Meet and Greet with Sartain at 6 pm at the Martin County Auditorium on the campus of Riverside High School. Everyone is welcome.
