The Martin County Board of Education approved calendar changes and operational plans for the spring semester during the December 4th meeting.
The last day of in-person learning for students, prior to Christmas break, will be Friday, December 15.
Monday, December 18, and Tuesday, December 19, are now Remote Learning Days, and students will not report to campus. Assignments will be available virtually or via printed packets.
Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools, explained two remote days will provide much-needed planning time for teachers.
Tuesday, January 2, 2024, is now a required Teacher Workday. The district will host a mid-year staff convocation at Riverside High School on this date.
The board unanimously approved the merger of South Creek High School and Riverside High School schedules for the upcoming spring semester.
The vote followed a joint presentation by counselors from both schools who initially identified grave concerns regarding their ability to place students in meaningful classes beneficial to the academic pathway.
The concerns are largely due to the number of teaching vacancies at South Creek High School. Merging staff will allow all students to be in face-to-face classes and avoid placing them in online courses and/or in classes with long-term substitute teachers.
All of the districtās high school students will attend Riverside High School and/or the Martin County Innovation Campus beginning second semester.
Wednesday, January 24, will now be a Remote Learning Day for high school students only. This will allow for final preparations to begin the second semester at Riverside High School.
January 25th will be the first in-person learning day of the second semester for high school students.
