Hernandez Joins Riverside Middle School Admin Team

Some schools across the district will begin the 2024-2025 school year with new faces in the role of assistant principal.

Introducing the first of those new faces, Cruz Hernandez.

After more than a decade with Bertie County Schools, Hernandez has joined Riverside Middle School as assistant principal.

ā€œWe are thrilled to have Mr. Hernandez onboard,ā€ explained Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools. ā€œHe brings an excitement for learning and a great understanding of data - two major assets for any school administration team. His professional experience includes elementary school and high school, making him a great fit for the area in between - middle school. He has an understanding of where his students will be coming from and where we must prepare them to go next.ā€

Hernandez comes to Martin County Schools with more than a decade of experience in North Carolina schools. He has taught elementary school, served as a district instructional facilitator and assistant principal prior to his arrival at Riverside Middle School.

He holds a bachelorā€™s degree in elementary education from Columbus State University in Georgia, a masterā€™s degree in instructional technology from American InterContinental University, and a masterā€™s degree in education and supervision from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Hernandez takes the reins from Tara Woodard, who will now serve E.J. Hayes Elementary School.
