second and seven

Did you know Martin County Schools has the only high school 2nd and 7 Program in North Carolina?

What is 2nd and 7? This is a national program focused on promoting reading to second-grade students. By design, the program uses positive role models and free books to help promote the love of reading. The Martin County Schools program brings high school athletes to each second-grade classroom multiple times a year.

During each visit, students receive a copy of that visitā€™s book to keep from the Hog Mollies series, which teaches character education.

The books are provided at no cost to the district thanks to the 2nd and 7 Foundation.

Visit their website at www.secondandseven.com to learn more about the program.

Chris Young, a reporter with WCTI-12, came on our most recent visit. You can catch his story on WCTI on Friday 10/18. If you miss it, check out Facebook page this weekend.

Eli, a second grader from Williamston Primary School, shared his most recent 2nd and 7 experience.
