PowerSchool, our previous student information system, notified the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and North Carolina public schools about a cybersecurity incident that impacted student and teacher data across their global client base via the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) spanning from 2013-2024.
Please know this incident was not isolated to North Carolina and is in no way due to the actions or inactions of Martin County Schools.
District leaders have spent the day assessing the extent of the breach.
The social security numbers of some staff members have been compromised. District leaders have notified impacted current staff and are providing support on protecting themselves.
The social security numbers of students in Martin County Schools were not impacted, according to information received from the North Carolina Department of Instruction.
Martin County Schools continues to seek more information on this situation and will keep our families informed to the best of our ability.
PowerSchool will notify affected individuals in the coming days.
A parent letter will be sent home with students tomorrow.
