We believe in celebrating individuals with autism every day through patience, understanding, and compassion. A huge thank you to Mrs. Beecham and Mrs. Purvis for creating a powerful display that promotes acceptance and reminds us all that kindness and inclusion should be part of our daily lives. Together, we make our school a place where everyone belongs!
Pattern Power: Mrs. Garcia’s Scholars Tackle Tile Pool Sequences Together!
Mrs. Garcia’s math scholars were deep in collaboration as they worked through Tile Pool Sequences! Using hands-on tiles, students explored patterns and built a strong, concrete understanding before moving on to abstract thinking. This engaging approach not only strengthens problem-solving skills but also supports conceptual learning in a meaningful way. Math comes alive when students explore, talk, and learn together—and that’s exactly what happened in Mrs. Garcia’s classroom today!
Revolutionary Thinking in Mrs. Hardison’s Class!
Mrs. Hardison’s students put their knowledge of the American Revolution to the test with a fun and challenging crossword puzzle! This engaging activity allowed students to review key events and figures from the revolution while showing what they’ve learned since starting the unit in Benchmark Advance. It was the perfect blend of critical thinking, collaboration, and content review—making history both meaningful and memorable!
Voices of the Revolution in Ms. Herring’s Classroom!
Ms. Herring’s 5th grade scholars are diving into the 1760s and 1770s, exploring America’s quest for independence through the Reader’s Theatre text “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death.” Our Benchmark Advance ELA resources seamlessly align with North Carolina’s Social Studies Standards, helping students build knowledge, fluency, and engagement through rich, historically connected content.
Quadrilateral Quest: Exploring Shapes with Purpose!
Ms. Cumbee’s math scholars were hard at work, diving into the world of geometry! They explored the hierarchy of quadrilaterals, identifying how shapes like squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and trapezoids are all connected. With pencils moving and minds engaged, these young mathematicians are building a strong foundation in critical thinking and classification. Way to go, scholars!
Future CEOs in the Making
EJH scholars who attend the Boys & Girls Club proudly showcased their businesses during an exciting walkthrough event! From handmade crafts to creative services, each display reflected the scholars’ unique interests and talents. They had the opportunity to choose their own business paths, reminding us that nurturing passions early can lead each dreamer toward their goals. Encouraging scholars to start now—right where they are—helps build confidence, leadership, and a future filled with possibilities. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and thriving at E. J. Hayes!

We’re roaring with pride as our largest group yet—32 scholars—earned a spot in the “85 & Above Club” by scoring an 85 or higher on a classroom assignment or test. Their hard work, determination, and focus are shining examples of what it means to be a Hayes Tiger. At E. J. Hayes, our scholars continue to show that they are the true embodiment of our school motto:

Hands-On with Geometry: Classifying Triangles in Action!
Mrs. Garcia’s 5th grade math scholars dove into a hands-on learning experience to build a strong conceptual understanding of triangles. Using the 5th grade NC Math Standard (MD), they explored how to classify triangles by their sides and angles through interactive, minds-on activities that made math come alive!
Rising 6th Graders: Join the Riverside Middle School/MIMS Band Program!

Starting in sixth grade, you’ll have the chance to play one of four amazing instruments: the Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, or Trombone. Imagine performing at our dazzling Christmas Concert, bringing joy to local nursing homes, and experiencing spectacular trips to see the Greensboro Symphony with Cirque Du Soleil and the NC Symphony! Plus, there are fun-filled events like Solo and Ensemble MPA and Fine Arts Night that will allow you to showcase your talent. As you progress into seventh and eighth grade, the excitement continues with opportunities to join our Jazz Band, Pep Band for football and basketball seasons, and even participate in overnight Spring Trips! Drugs Uncovered: What Parents Need to Know is tailored for parents. For the Health of it! is designed for middle school students.
Dinner will be provided before the 2-hour workshops.
Advanced registration is appreciated for this no-cost opportunity..

We wrapped up March Madness in the best way possible—with a thrilling Scholars vs. Staff Kickball Game against Mrs. White’s homeroom class! Our scholars brought their A-game, and despite our best efforts, they took home the victory! More importantly, we all had a fantastic time enjoying the beautiful afternoon together.
Rest up, scholars, because we have a busy and exciting week ahead! Let’s keep that same energy going as we finish strong.
