Amanda Bramble, Martin County Cleark of Court, swore in Jimbo Shiver, Pat Nelson, Renee Purvis and Chase Conner.
Two new board members and two returning board members were sworn in during the December 2 meeting of the Martin County Board of Education.
Chase Conner and Jimbo Shiver, newly elected board members, were sworn in alongside Pat Nelson and Renee Purvis, who returned to the board.
After new members were sworn in, the board held elections for the chair and vice chair positions. Renee Purvis, last year’s vice chair, was unanimously elected chair for the year. Doug Baker was unanimously elected vice chair.
Dr. Michelle White took a moment to thank our exiting board members, Kenneth Harrell and Van Heath. Harrell served for over 30 years, and Heath served on the board for 28 years.
“These gentlemen have seen our district through incredible times, such as consolidation, COVID, and mergers. Even when the task at hand was an unpopular one, these men stood strong with our district and the mission at hand - the success of our students,” White explained. “They have also served as incredible encouragers to our staff, always finding time to hear their concerns and celebrate their accomplishments. Thank you for your dedication to our county, our schools, and the children of Martin County. Always remember, you made a difference.”
