Martin County High School’s volleyball team will begin workouts next week with a new face on the sidelines, but she’s no stranger to coaching.
Amy Bennett, Director of Technology for Martin County Schools, returns to coaching. She first held this role from 1999 to 2002 as the volleyball coach at Bear Grass High School, where she also coached basketball and softball.
"I'm thrilled to be back coaching alongside Jessy Dickerson (assistant coach),” Bennett explained. “With a talented group of girls returning and a promising freshmen class, I'm eager to get in the gym and start working together."
From 2003-2006, Bennett coached boys basketball and softball at Roanoke Middle School. She has additional coaching experience with Lawrence High School in Mississippi, Unity Christian Academy, and the Washington Recreation Department.
“I have known Amy since she played sports in high school and have also seen her coach earlier in her career,” said Wes Hughes, MCS High School Athletic Director. “Her work ethic and competitive nature should work well leading our volleyball program.”
Dickerson, who will serve as an assistant volleyball coach, is the media coordinator for Jamesville Elementary School.
Volleyball workouts begin June 25-27 from 9 am - 11 am at the Riverside High School Gym.
