Pat Nelson, retired Martin County Schools educator, is the newest member of the Martin County Board of Education.
The board approved Nelsonās appointment to the District 2 seat during the August 5 regularly scheduled meeting.
Nelson served Martin County School for 32 years as a teacher and reading coach. The Robersonville High School graduate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with certifications in K-12 Reading, K-4 Education, and ELA/Social Studies for grades 6-8.
In her application for the seat Nelson explained, āWhat I did those 32 years in Martin County Schools prepared me to work on the Board of Education with a unique understanding of what goes on with teachers and students. I am well-read on education even today.ā
Following the unanimous vote, Nelson was sworn in by Martin County Clerk of Court Tonya Leggett. She immediately took her seat on the board of her first official meeting.
Nelsonās appointment is to fill the remainder of the term vacated by Gail Cargile earlier this year. Nelson has filed to run for the seat in the November election.
