
I-Ready March Madness is heating up at SCMS! The Final Four for each subject was announced this morning! Congratulations to the advancing homeroom classes!


Tim Manning, VP of Manning Masonry, Inc. and alumnus of Martin County Schools, spoke to CTE, Early College, and interested high school students about opportunities within the masonry and construction business. Manning Masonry, Inc. specializes in turn-key construction while delivering quality projects on time and within budget. The company is sponsoring and will attend the College and Career Fair on March 27th.





Rod Lykins of SkillsUSA visited recently with CTE staff for a Q&A regarding the additional SkillsUSA Comps that are being added to Career & Technical Education courses. Teachers also collaborated on an intro activity for classroom use!




Congratulations to the SCMS Battle of the Books team for taking 2nd place at our county competition today.

i-Ready March Madness at SCMS! The brackets have been set! Which homerooms have what it takes to be crowned the i-Ready Math and Reading Champions! The homeroom with the most amount of passed lessons at the end of each week will survive and advance until we crown a Reading and a Math Champion. Good Luck to all!

South Creek Middle School Jr Beta Club members helped South Creek Elementary celebrate Read Across America week. They spent time with the students and read books with the classes.

Sergeant Pearson is getting drum lessons from a few of our 6th grade band students.


SCMS students used their detective skills as they worked together as Secret Agents to reclaim stolen classified documents. Students used collaboration skills, creative thinking skills, math skills, and literacy skills to solve the puzzle.

We would like to send a huge thank you to Mr. Josh Adams for bringing the virtual world to SCMS. Students in Ms. Modlin's Media/Tech class were able to interact with the solar system, explore a supernova, and visit many famous landmarks from around the globe. What a great learning opportunity for our students.

Students in all grade levels practiced their math skills of measuring and conversions by reducing the ingredients in a recipe. They then were able to test their skills by making the recipe. Students were able to enjoy their very own homemade chocolate chip cookies.

SCMS students are learning about relaxation techniques that help reduce stress and anxiety.




6th Graders conducted an experiment on cellular respiration using water, food coloring, and celery.





Students were provided an informative presentation by Chief Larry Johnson of the MCC Fire Academy. MCS currently has students enrolled in the Jr. Firefighter and Exploration programs through Williamston Fire/Rescue. Firefighters and Rescue personnel are in need nationally.





Edwards, Inc., an industrial contractor with locations throughout eastern NC, presented their company and career opportunities to students recently. Ms. May, company recruiter, and Mr. Sutton, project manager, provided the information. Edwards, Inc. is also the corporate sponsor of the MCS College and Career Fair on March 27th.

MCS Celebrates CTE Month! Through February we are highlighting our Career & Technical Education Program, culminating in March with our College and Career Fair! The fair will be at the Innovation Campus, home of the Martin Innovative Early College on March 27th!


Katie Ross, Senior Human Resource Advisor for Domtar and MCS grad, along with Safety Rep Joe Jordan, presented to CTE classes regarding the operations of Domtar, Inc. Students were able to gain information about the soft skills needed for job interviews and job preparation, as well as technical skills, wages, certifications, and opportunities at the plant.
