MCS Consolidates Athletics
Board Fully Supports Proposal
Martin County Schools will unify athletic programs to expand opportunities for all students.
Riverside and South Creek Athletics will join at the middle and high school levels to play as Martin beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
The proposed merger was presented to the Martin County Board of Education Monday night (6/5) by Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools.
The Martin County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Dr. White’s proposal.
“This move is to ensure all students have equal access to athletics,” explained Dr. White.
“Geography should never be a factor in access to opportunities for our students,” she said. “For years, students in the South Creek district have not had consistent opportunities in athletics. Joining forces will allow every student the opportunity to take part in every sport offered.”
Teams will play as Martin, wearing black and silver/gray. The black is taken from South Creek’s current colors, and the silver/gray is from Riverside.
Martin’s mascot and final colors will be determined later with input from district stakeholders.
Asim McGill, former Riverside High School football coach and current MCS Director of Student Involvement, will serve as the district athletic director.
