For more than twenty years, Teleria Powell has been an exceptional employee and cheerleader for all things Martin County Schools.
The 1994 Roanoke High School graduate has worked in various capacities across the district, including School Nutrition, Media Assistant, Exceptional Children’s Assistant, Bus Driver, and Data Manager. Much of her career has been spent in her home district, now known as South Creek.
Two years ago, Powell took on the district's PowerSchool Coordinator position. This semester, she moved to the Riverside High School campus and became the Office Manager for the consolidated high school schedule, which serves students from Riverside and South Creek High Schools.
“It’s a joy to be back with the students,” Powell said. “I didn’t realize how much I truly missed being around students until now. I have gotten close with the Riverside students as well.”
The Riverside High School front office did not have a dedicated person at the window. With the influx of students this semester, Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools, knew that had to change.
“Ms. Powell was the perfect fit for this role,” said Dr. White. “Her working knowledge of various areas in our school system, combined with her infectious enthusiasm for people, made her the ideal person to help welcome the South Creek students, their families, and school staff, many of whom already knew her.”
One only has to spend a few minutes in the front office to see Powell has emersed herself in the merged schedules and has accepted the challenge to make change good for everyone.
“She is a true illustration of the term cheerleader,” said Dr. White. “Teleria wants the best for every student and every co-worker and she goes above and beyond to ensure they receive just that.”
Powell balances the Office Manager role with responsibilities as the district’s point person for PowerSchool.
