Asim McGill will serve Martin County Schools in the dual role of Athletic Director and Student Services Coordinator for the 2023-2024 school year.
The veteran coach and educator was tapped as the District Athletic Director in May and has been vital in the merging of athletic programs for the coming school year.
In addition to the Athletic Director position, McGill will take on the role of Student Services Coordinator for the district.
“In the Student Services Coordinator position, just as he did during his coaching career, Mr. McGill will have a direct impact on the lives of our students,” said Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools.
“He may have left the football field, but he never stopped coaching students,” said White. “Mr. McGill has a passion for education and for encouraging students. In the Student Services Coordinator position, that combination will be a tremendous benefit to our students.”
McGill just completed 22 years in education. His first stop out of college was in Lee County, where he taught physical education from 2001-2006. He joined Martin County Schools in August 2006 at Williamston/Riverside High School, where he served as head football coach for 15 years.
In July 2021, McGill took his talents to the district level as the Director of Family & Student Involvement.
The Washington native completed a Bachelor of Science degree at North Carolina Central University in 2001 and a Master of School Administration from East Carolina University in 2010.
