What an unforgettable Wednesday it was! Picture this: 6 teams, each consisting of 6 students spanning grades 3 through 8, from MCS elementary and middle schools, all gathering at ECU's Murphy Center, fueled with excitement for the Math Champions competition hosted by the Northeast AIG Region. This marked a first for Martin County Schools, and our students certainly didn't disappoint. They rose to the occasion, showcasing their incredible talent and teamwork. Witnessing students persevering through challenges as a team was truly inspiring! A big shout out from Ms. Riggins goes to Ms. Carli Patterson for assisting with the morning drop off and to Bella White and Katibeth Speller for their outstanding assistance with the elementary students, ensuring the day ran smoothly. A special thank you to Coach McGill for his unwavering dedication and support to Martin County Schools. Lastly, thank you to the parents, teachers, principals, and the bus garage! Everyone's invaluable contributions did not go unnoticed! 🌟 #Teamwork #Appreciation The Math Champions competition, an annual event aimed at nurturing student interest and confidence in math, encourages problem-solving and critical thinking skills. During the event, participants engage in two thrilling components: the math quiz bowl and the breakout rooms. The math quiz bowl is where teams race against the clock to solve challenging math questions. The breakout rooms are where they apply mathematics, logic, critical thinking, and decoding skills to crack four different problems. Once they solve the final code, they race to their grade level station to unlock the breakout box! Math Quiz Bowl 3rd Grade - 3rd Place 7th Grade - 2nd Place 8th Grade - 1st Place Breakout Rooms: 6th grade - 3rd Place 7th Grade - 3rd Place 8th Grade - 1st Place Grades 3rd through 5th also escaped with minutes to spare! Round 1 of NCHSAA Tennis Playoffs Wednesday (5/1) at 4pm Martin hosts Roanoke Rapids

Today was an awesome day for the 4th Grade AIG students. Over the past month, the students from EJH, JES, RES, SCES have been studying about fossils and dinosaurs with Ms. Riggins and Mr. Galich. To conclude their studies, we embarked on a field trip to the Aurora Fossil Museum for hands-on fossil digging. Following a morning of exploration, the students stopped in Washington for pizza at the park. The four groups joined together and played as if they'd been friends forever! Ms. Riggins would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Mrs. Kristi Roberson, Mr. Galich, Mr. Wynne and especially to the Senior CTE Intern students, Justin Webb and Bradley Reason, for taking time to serve as a mentor for these young students! I think it is safe to say, everyone had a great day!

MCS Interns are a great example of "Martin Offers More!" They are also a great example to younger students and our constituents for the awesome jobs they are performing as community leaders and business professionals. Brooklyn Bailey's internship has enhanced her passion and future plans for law and the legal profession. Williamston Primary intern, Shakiah Dolberry, is enjoying her Pre-K internship and gaining valuable experience in early childhood development. Part of her designed pathway, Shakiah enjoys helping young students and studying nursery education with her mentor, Mrs. Cullipher.

Martin County FFA Wins Again! The NE Regional FFA Rally was held, April 19th at COA in Elizabeth City. Martin County FFA members Sammy Bennett, Reagan Cowan, Jayla Everett, Tonyneia James, Alijah Lassiter, Peyton Rogers, and Landon Stalls were in attendance with advisors, Mr. Bennett and Miss Patterson. Sammy Bennett, Alijah Lassiter, Jayla Everett, and Landon Stalls competed in Ag Mechanics; Reagan Cowan completed in Extemporaneous Public Speaking and Peyton Rogers completed in Employability Skills. Regan, Peyton, and Landon were recognized for their 1st place win in the region in Ag Sales and Regan earned highest scoring individual. Our hunter safety team was also recognized for their 2nd place finish in the regional competition. Tonyneia James completed in Creed Speaking and placed 3rd in the region and will be competing at the state competition in June! We are so proud of all our members for their dedication and hard work! Way to go Martin County FFA!

While some students are thinking about careers in healthcare, Bradley Reason is doing the work. In our JOBS Internship program, Bradley is gaining experience daily to enhance his health science pathway with our partner, Access Medicine, with Dr. Steven Manning and staff.

The MCS Culinary Arts class is tantalizing the tastebuds with their creation of Cheesesteak Eggrolls and Vegetable Fried Rice! Getting hungry?

Martin County FFA members Peyton Rogers and Reagan Cowan's hard work paid off this past Thursday at the Martin County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale. They have been caring for and preparing their goats, Kodak Black and Willie Nelson for more than three months. Peyton Rogers and her goat, Willie Nelson, were crowned Senior Champion Showman and Reserve Medium Weight Market Goat Champion. Reagan Cowan and her goat, Kodak Black, were crowned Senior Reserve Champion Showman and Champion Medium Weight Market Goat Champion. "This was a new adventure for Martin County FFA and to come out on top just made it all worth the challenge", said FFA Advisor Miss Patterson. The girls are already planning for next year's show.

Martin County Schools students engage in 3rd Annual Career & College Fair! Over 50 vendors that included the industries of construction, agriculture, science, technology, broadcasting, healthcare, boatbuilding, public works, masonry, finance, and pest management to college admission specialists and branches of the military were on display for MCS 7th-12th graders. Representatives Tolson and Speight from Edgecombe-Martin EMC spoke to students about career opportunities within their departments and the EMC Line Tech Camp for grades 9-12 coming up for MCS on April 18th.

The Martin County FFA Agricultural Sales Senior Team competed at the University of Mount Olive today in the State competition. A huge congratulations to this young team who placed 1st in the region and top 20 in the state! We are very proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see them continue to grow in the competition!
