
On January 23 there will be the second semester open house from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on the campus of Riverside High School. All Riverside and South Creek High School students/parents are invited to come and meet their second-semester teachers. A brief presentation by the administration/student services department will take place in the Martin County Auditorium at 5:45 pm. We ask that everyone start at RHS and then transition to the MCS Innovation Campus afterward.

FCCLA to ECU's Hospitality Leadership and Business Schools
The MCS Chapter of Family Career and Community Leaders of America attended an instructional presentation and campus tour of East Carolina University's Hospitality Leadership program. Students interested in Culinary Arts and the business side of the food service industry gained valuable information regarding the program's degree options and job opportunities.

Registration for the Saturday driver education classes will be December 11th and 12th at South Creek High School in the cafeteria. Registration will be 3:30-4:15. The cost is 65 dollars. Students must attend school in Martin County. Homeschool students are eligible to register for the class as long as they reside in Martin County. Class time is 8-2 on the following dates: January 6, 20, 27 ,February 3rd, February 10th. Students need to be born on or before July 2009.
The Martin County Board Education has approved the following calendar adjustments: Dec. 18 and 19 will be remote learning days for the entire district. Students will have assignments to complete from their teacher on these days either online or by paper. Students will need to request a paper packet for assignments by Dec. 13 if they will not have internet access for these 2 days.
Jan. 2 will be a mandatory teacher workday.
Jan. 24 will also be a remote learning day for all High School students. The Board also has approved the merger of S. Creek HS teachers and students to the campus of Riverside HS. This change will take place starting the second semester this school year.
We will operate on a normal schedule all week this week including Friday.

Students from the Martin Innovative Early College and MCS CTE spoke to 8th-grade classes at Riverside Middle School recently on the Game Art Design pathway opportunities. Mr. Prettyman, who teaches GAD, along with Digital Design & Animation and Advanced Manufacturing at the Innovation Campus, had his students share their experiences and the content the courses in the pathway offered. Marshall Lawrence II, Lauren Campbell, and Terrance Whitley advised the 8th graders about the courses and prerequisites and being a student at the Early College and all the opportunities available through CTE (Career & Technical Education).







MCS student Alijah Lassiter works at his internship for PV Transport with Country View Family Farms. Located in Williamston, CVFF Trailer Wash and Bio-Dry is the only facility of its kind in NC. Alijah enjoys the work and opportunity of a paid internship via CVFF and MCS CTE. Great job, Alijah! There will be a School Improvement Team meeting on 12/4 after school in the media center. All are invited to attend.

MCS HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) enjoyed a day of learning and observation on the ECU Health Campus. Students participated in the Brody Sciences Simulation Lab, observed real rehab practices, visited the Maynard Children's Hospital, toured the Ronald McDonald House, and ventured through the Brody Heart and Cancer Centers. MCS is learning by doing as students also received information about job shadowing opportunities at various ECU Health facilities.







Representatives from two Martin County agencies visited RHS to provide information regarding their respective careers and opportunities within their areas or work environments. Investigator M. Paniagua from the Martin County Sheriff's Office and Eric Manning, Production & Safety Manager at Martin Enterprises, provided students with valuable knowledge and real-world experiences. Students had questions answered and enjoyed learning about the intricacies of each employer.

On Nov. 28 all CTE Concentrator students who have completed a CTE pathway and are scheduled to graduate in January will take the ACT Workkeys tests at the IC at 8am. The WorkKeys system from ACT is being used in high schools to help students understand how they can improve their skills for better-paying jobs. WorkKeys scores help employers take the guesswork out of determining whether individuals are qualified for positions in their organizations.

The high school Fire Academy through Martin Community College for Jr's and Sr's will have meetings beginning in March. For those 9th & 10th graders who applied for the Jr. Firefighter program, your first meeting is November 13th at Williamston Fire Department. This is a reminder that students needing medication during the school day must have a green medical form on file with Nurse Spence. This includes over the counter medicines such as tylenol or motrin.
The first quarter of this school year has ended. Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 are teacher workdays and parents have the opportunity to come and have a parent teacher conference with any of our instructors. Nov. 8 is from 11 AM to 7 PM and Nov. 9 is from 8 AM to 4 PM. While scheduling an appointment is not required, it is recommended that you email or call the instructor if you have a tight schedule as some conferences may be lengthy. Guardians will be able to pick up your child’s report card at this event. Please check power school for all updates on your students grades and attendance.

MCS CTE and Early College students ventured to S&N Enterprises, a poultry farm owned by Perdue and operated by Mr. Steven Brake. Students gained perspective into the poultry industry, precision farming, and careers in the agriculture industry.
